Computer Tapes
KOPY-RITE has been offering tape
duplication services since 1990. Our duplication systems
have the capability of duplicating almost any type of
tape created by SCSI-based drives.
Our capabilities currently include:
- 4mm DAT
- 8mm (Including Mammoth)
- QIC (a variety of formats)
- DLT
Note that we can easily expand
this list to accommodate new formats as long as the
drives are SCSI based.
PRICING
The prices for tape duplication
are based on the amount of time it takes to do a tape,
the number of tapes to be copied, and the required turnaround
time. Each job is essentially a custom quote and there
is not a standard price sheet.
We can generally provide an estimate
within a few hours. There are many factors that can
influence duplication time, though, and so we cannot
provide a firm quote until we have received a tape and
can run a sample (at no charge). The test run will immediately
reveal any format issues that could negatively impact
the price.
QUOTE REQUIREMENTS
In order to provide a quote for tape duplication we
will need several pieces of information. We understand
that some customers simply cannot get answers to all
of these questions. We can still provide an estimate,
but it may be less accurate because we will essentially
be making an educated guess at what is needed.
| TAPE
TYPE |
Be as specific
as possible. There is usually some identifying number
on the tape that indicates the size and the length.
Also be sure to mention if you have any specific
brand requirements for the duplicates. |
| AMOUNT
OF DATA |
We do not necessarily
need to know the exact amount of data. We do, however,
need some sort of ballpark estimate in order to
calculate the amount of time necessary to copy the
tape. Without some sort of size estimate we will
estimate a full tape (which could be substantially
more data than is actually present. |
| COMPRESSION |
Is the tape compressed?
This significantly impacts the amount of time required
to duplicate a tape. Compressed tapes duplicate
approximately twice as fast as uncompressed tapes. |
| TRANSFER
RATE |
This is the rate
at which the data was written to the tape, and is
unusually measured in KB or MB per second. Many
customers do not know this rate, and it is not necessary
for an estimate. If it is known, though, it will
help to provide a more accurate estimate. |
