| Four
Color Process
Four color process uses four colors
to produce multiple colors. The four colors used are…Cyan,
Magenta, Yellow, and Black (CMYK). For example, almost
every print ad, mailer, poster and picture you see is
produced using four color process printing. By combining
these four colors, using various percentages of each
color, will allow multiple colors to be produced.
Because you are working with four
colors to create multiple colors, there may be some
variance when going to print. Typically, the plant will
produce a digital proof to keep with the order throughout
the production process. There are typically three proof
options upon submitting artwork to the plant for silkscreen
or offset printing. One, is an electronic proof (a .pdf
file), which is a proof that is created for review of
text placement and color placement only. This is not
for color correctness. The second is a digital or laser
proof. This is not an exact match, but will give a close
representation of how the artwork is expected to print.
The third is an "actual proof disc", this
is the only way to see true representation of how your
artwork will look on the disc. However, this will add
time and cost to your job due to the intricate setup
of printing replicated discs. It is always helpful to
submit a color printout with your artwork file, so we
can compare it to the proof generated at KOPY-RITE and
the plant.
For CD/R & DVD/R printing,
KOPY-RITE will produce an actual disc sample, if requested.
Since we utilize a different print process for duplicated
discs, it is much easier to produce a sample disc. If
it is a simple design, such as text only or text and
a simple logo, a proof can be faxed or emailed for sign-off.
